Daffodil and Snow Ink
-Soaking Daffodil flowers in freshly melted snow
March 2024.
During a spring ice-storm at a friend’s house in Maine I collected fresh snow. He had left me freshly picked daffodils in a bouquet, picked before the storm.
I clipped off the yellow flowers and discarded the stems.
I filtered the snow using a coffee filter.
I put the flowers and the melted snow in a glass jar and soaked with some vinegar and salt for about 4-5 days.
I cooked gently on stovetop to concentrate.
I strained the liquid to remove the flowers.
I bottled the Daffodil Water-Based ink into a 60 ml dropper bottle, added 10 drops liquid gum Arabic (distilled water, powdered gum, honey, glycerin), preservative and 2 drops each of wintergreen and clove essential oils.
